Slimani closes in on massive African record
The Algerian international striker, Islam Slimani, scorer during the precious victory of the Greens against Cameroon (1-0) Friday evening at the Japoma stadium in Douala, in the first leg of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, joined Samuel Eto’o and the Burkinabé Mamouni Dagano, in 2nd place in the ranking of the best African scorer in the World Cup qualifiers, with 17 goals.
The Sporting Lisbon gunner scored his 17th goal five minutes before the break with an angry header from the penalty spot, which left the Cameroonian goalkeeper in Onana (0-1) no chance allowing the Greens to win for the first in their history in an official match against the Indomitable Lions.
Slimani, who is also the top scorer in the history of the Algerian selection with 40 goals, is only one achievement away from the leader of the African ranking in the world qualifiers, the Ivorian Didier Drogba (18).
The native of Ain Benian thus entered a little more into the legend, consolidating his status as top scorer in the history of the national team with a fortieth goal.
